As readers of this blog may have now noticed, this site now has a photographic header at the top of the page. It is made from a small selection of my photos of games that have been played at the Grimsby Wargames Society. The figures and vehicles, of course, belong to other members of the club. What great figures and vehicles they are!

The header showcases just some of the historical periods played at the Grimsby Wargames Society:

I apologise to anyone viewing this blog, my blog, as I have not posted for a few months. This has been due to the fact I have been busy with other projects and doing other things. This blog is just one of a number of blogs that I own. Obviously my main wargames blog is at http://grantsgrimsbygames.blogspot.com. My other blogs have got nothing to do with wargaming.

In the past few months the Grimsby Wargames Society has hosted a Battle of Frieberg 1762 refight as well as played host to some lads from Manchester and some from Yorkshire in a Sudan Day. Some photos and a mini report to do with both will hopefully appear here soon in the next few weeks. All the photos from the Battle of Frieberg 1762 refight can actually be seen by clicking on the “More Photos” at the bottom of the Flickr widget on the right which is displaying my photos from my personal Flickr photostream.

After a recent discussion with some club members I now feel I have to once again make it clear that this blog, my blog, stopped being considered the “Official” Grimsby Wargames Society Website when the new site, owned by new club member Malc Johnston, went live at the end of July 2010. When Malc’s site went live his site then became the “Official” Grimsby Wargames Society website. My previous post on this site had made that perfectly clear. As I could not in all fairness call it the Grimsby Wargames Society “Official” website anymore, I changed its name to the Grimsby Wargames Society “Unofficial” website whilst making it clear where the new “Official” one could be located.

The decision as to whether this blog would not be considered the “Official” Grimsby Wargames Society website anymore was down to the Grimsby Wargames Society, and not mine. It was not my choice.

Doors open 7PM. Bring some cash for the tuck shop etc as we have soft drinks, chocolate, hot drinks and crisps available for you to munch on.

They took it in turns: One of them would play as British for one game then next game they would be german. It is my understanding that the result ended up being a draw. All the figures and tanks belonged to Andy.

Myself, Mal Johnston and Dave Tuck were the Egyptians using Dave Tuck’s figures. Mike Barnatt, Mark Temperton and Dave Hewins were the Hittites using Dave Hewins figures. The result: The Egyptians won. Yipeeeee!!

Tucky managed to break the defences in the middle commanded by Mike Barnatt. Tucky gave me a little help but I managed to somehow hold my flank. There were several times my amazing dice-throwing meant that I was unable to move or fire.

The day after, on Tuesday night, 30th March 2010, all I did was just play Magic but noted the names of the board games that were played, which were:

Although last wednesday was only casual play, there was the 2nd ever Easter Egg Standard Challenge Magic Tournament on Easter itself, 4th April 2010 at the club. 1st and 2nd place received an easter egg. Thanks again to Mark Pinder for the results which are below:

In the game of ACW above the result ended up being a draw. This was partly down to the fact that Steve’s Confederates had captured one objective, mainly the camp I was defending, was struggling to capture another whilst the middle was in dispute. I got to use my 15mm ACW figures which hadn’t seen the light of day in at least a year and which were originally obtained from Dave Tuck many years ago. The scenario used was “Daybreak at Hangman’s Creek” straight out of the Black Powder rulebook.

On Tuesday upstairs was full of Warhammer games as usual. Most players were, in fact, upstairs anyway. With a few playing Magic: The Gathering for a short while all else that remained downstairs played board games. I was one of the 3 playing board games with the other 2 players being Mark Alcock and Mike Clarke. The games we played were, in the order we played them:

Dominion: Intrigue
Agricola
Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper – The first time this game had been played by me and which I won!

The results of last Wednesdays MTG Standard Tournament:
