Zulu! Zulu!

Next week, 26th April 2010, the Grimsby Wargames Society will be having a LARGE club game, for which all of you who are reading this are welcome to join us.

Doors open 7PM. Bring some cash for the tuck shop etc as we have soft drinks, chocolate, hot drinks and crisps available for you to munch on.

The game WILL NOT be Rorke’s Drift though that will not stop me from practising my impersonation of Michael Caine’s officer from the film “Zulu”.

If you’ve never been to the Grimsby Wargames Society before or never even played with Zulu’s before, all I can say is, COME ON DOWN AND GIVE IT A TRY!!

Some Interesting Viewing

Okay. Its not a fantastically titled post but the fact is, the videos below are interesting viewing. The videos were made by GWS member Mal Johnston and are also available for viewing on our Grimsby Wargames Society Youtube Channel, which I set up a few years ago. Enjoy!

Weekly Dispatches: W/E 11th April 2010

Mainly for economical reasons, I did not go to the club at all last week. However I am able to offer some photos, as yet unseen, from the games that took place a week earlier:

On the 7th April 2010 a Magic the Gathering Draft Tournament took place at the club with the following results:

Weekly Dispatches W/E Easter 2010

A Wars of the Roses game between The Scots and the Yorkists. John Ogden was The Scots and Mark Alcock…wasn’t.
This Zulu is owned, painted and based by Mike Barnatt which he brought in to show us all. He actually bought it from Dave Hewins model shop in Grimsby as a pack of 10.
Andy Hamilton and Steve Grahame played 2 games of 15mm WW2 using the Rapid Fire! rules. They took it in turns: One of them would play as British for one game then next game they would be german. It is my understanding that the result ended up being a draw. All the figures and tanks belonged to Andy.
Egyptians v Hittites. Myself, Mal Johnston and Dave Tuck were the Egyptians using Dave Tuck’s figures. Mike Barnatt, Mark Temperton and Dave Hewins were the Hittites using Dave Hewins figures. The result: The Egyptians won. Yipeeeee!!

Tucky managed to break the defences in the middle commanded by Mike Barnatt. Tucky gave me a little help but I managed to somehow hold my flank. There were several times my amazing dice-throwing meant that I was unable to move or fire.

The day after, on Tuesday night, 30th March 2010, all I did was just play Magic but noted the names of the board games that were played, which were:

Cyclades
Macao

Although last wednesday was only casual play, there was the 2nd ever Easter Egg Standard Challenge Magic Tournament on Easter itself, 4th April 2010 at the club. 1st and 2nd place received an easter egg.  Thanks again to Mark Pinder for the results which are below:

Weekly Dispatches: W/E 28th March 2010

In the game of ACW above the result ended up being a draw. This was partly down to the fact that Steve’s Confederates had captured one objective, mainly the camp I was defending, was struggling to capture another whilst the middle was in dispute. I got to use my 15mm ACW figures which hadn’t seen the light of day in at least a year and which were originally obtained from Dave Tuck many years ago. The scenario used was “Daybreak at Hangman’s Creek” straight out of the Black Powder rulebook.

On Tuesday upstairs was full of Warhammer games as usual. Most players were, in fact, upstairs anyway. With a few playing Magic: The Gathering for a short while all else that remained downstairs played board games. I was one of the 3 playing board games with the other 2 players being Mark Alcock and Mike Clarke. The games we played were, in the order we played them:

Dominion: Intrigue
Agricola
Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper – The first time this game had been played by me and which I won!

The results of last Wednesdays MTG Standard Tournament:
